В южной части Тихого океана продолжает движение тропический циклон «Гарольд». Два дня назад он нанес мощный удар по Вануату. Теперь он прошел у южной части Фиджи и движется к островам Королевства Тонга со скоростью 35 км/ч. Скорость ветра вблизи его центра оценивается в 185 км/ч.
На всей территории Фиджи действуют предупреждения о наводнениях из-за проливных дождей. Сильный ветер (вблизи центра циклона его скорость достигала 195 км/ч, порывы — 275 км/ч) повредил дома и повалил много деревьев. Город Нанди, расположенная на острове Вити-Леву столица страны, остался без света, передает RNZ Pacific.
Информация о жертвах пока не поступала, известно о нескольких пострадавших. Данные об ущербе уточняются, но пока из-за проблем с электроснабжением и связью сделать это сложно.
Еще одной проблемой стала эвакуация жителей в условиях эпидемии коронавирусной инфекции (на Фиджи выявлено 15 заболевших). Из-за нее в стране действует комендантский час. В пунктах временного размещения находятся 1778 человек, сообщает FBC.
